Going into this race Gustavo Vildosola Jr. had a sizable lead in the Baja Protruck Drivers Championship. Rick L. Johnson whom was second in points going into this event would need to win the event and have Vildosola finish last and not earn any finishing points in order to try and surpass Vildosola for the championship. Vildosola secured his championship in winning style by out lasting the 10 Baja Protrucks that started the race to take home the win at the 1st Baja Protruck Challenge at Glen Helen Raceway. With the win, Vildosola was crowned the 2006 Baja Protruck Champion and took home more than $100,000 in prize money. R. Johnson placed eight and secured his second place finish for the championship to take home $25,000. The top five finishers at Glen Helen were: 1. Vildosola 2. Mike Johnson 3. Voss 4. Hogan 5.
