Protruck News Release

2007 Score Laughlin Desert Challenge
January 19-21, 2007, Laughlin, NV

It was dusty, windy, and cold. But the racing was the story in Laughlin, Nevada, near the windswept Colorado River, where Baja Protruck teams from four states gathered to celebrate the first race of their 2007 season. SCORE International’s Laughlin Desert Challenge. The format was five (5) laps of wide-open racing on a six (6) mile loop that included a stadium infield segment, complete with Jumbotron television viewing. The race action was rough and tough with plenty of action for all. The Baja Protrucks took on the tough course in two separate races, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday.

Saturday, for the first time, California based Voss Motorsports fielded two Ford Baja Protrucks, and thereby joined the ranks of the multi-car teams competing in the Baja Protruck Off Road Race Series. Rich Voss captivated the grandstand audience with a leaping drag race right off the start, challenging Nevada’s Al Levinson in his Ford Baja Protruck #207. The father-son team of Rich (#255) and Jason Voss #235 completed Lap 1 in second and third positions respectively, behind Nevada Al. By the end of Lap 2, young Jason took the lead until engine problems on the last lap.

Another contending team who is taking the next step to a multi-car team format is Washington state-based BiPolar Extreme Racing Team of Dave Creagan (Creagan Motorsports) and Jim Wasson. Over the years, the Baja Protruck drivers have developed a reputation for consistency and close clean racing: a true driver’s class. Dave’s racing partner Jim Wasson had two identical lap times on Saturday… to the second! How do you do that over a six-mile course? Rich and Jason Voss must also know –each had two identical lap times at the Saturday race. Most of the Baja Protruck drivers were just seconds apart on their lap charts for the weekend. What a heart-pounding race. Watch too for more news about this BiPolar Extreme Racing Team, as media interest is piqued in their duel racing program: Baja Protrucks in the desert, and Arctic Cats in the frozen zones!

Baja Protrucks has always been a family affair, starting with founders Ivan and Miss Linda Stewart, and their sons Brian, Gary, and Craig, all of them either driving, preparing, or organizing logistics and support. Is it any wonder that so many father / son, father / daughter, brothers / uncles / niece and nephew and sons and brothers in law teams would grace the roster of the Baja Protruck Series over the years? The tradition happily continues as the father-son team of Dave and Jeff Creagan took the green flag on Saturday in their orange Arctic Cat sponsored truck Dave’s brother Jim Creagan also took the wheel on Sunday’s race.

The fourth state in this Baja Protruck reunion is Utah, very ably represented by Wade Kelson and his Kelson Motorsports family in their green and orange truck. Wade and co-driver/navigator Todd Bogh treated spectators on the pit side of the infield to a breathtaking race within the race with one of the BiPolar Protrucks on Sunday. Retaining their Sat. position and finishing fourth for the weekend’s event. Kelson Motorsports will soon be adding a new Protruck to their stable.

Sunday’s racing was equally as exciting as Saturday. When all the points for the weekend were tallied Nevada Al Levinson took the win. His experience from his quad racing days, helped get him two first place finishes (one Saturday, one Sunday), for the combined overall win. BiPolar’s Jim Wasson ended in second place for the weekend, with Jim Creagan at the helm on Sunday. The Voss Motorsports team finished in second position (Rich on Saturday, Jason on Sunday) but ended up in third for the weekend. Keep your eyes open for all these teams. They are poised, organized, and working diligently toward that year end points first place trophy. Next race on the Baja Protruck Off Road Race Series Calendar is the Best in the Desert Parker 425, the first double points race of 2007.

1. Alan Levinson – Bonnie Springs - Ford
2. Jim Wasson – Bipolar Racing - Chevy
3. Jason Voss – Voss Motorsports - Ford
4. Wade Kelson – Kelson Motorsports - Ford
