Johnson Wins Protruck Racing Class, Takes Eighth Overall Finish at 40th Annual SCORE Baja 1000 EL CAJON, CA (Oct. 13-14, 2007) – Protruck is proud to announce Rick Johnson of Oak Hills, California and co-drivers Dane Cardone of Huntington Beach and Jimmy Nuckles of Brawley, California as the class winners at the 40th Annual Baja 1000. In a race so grueling that nearly 50-percent of the entrants don’t officially finish, Rick Johnson beat out 13 other Protruck competitors and placed eighth of the overall finishers with a time of 28:28:44 and an average speed of 45.52 miles per hour. The race runs through some of the most picturesque and inhospitable landscape from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas where attrition rates upwards of 50 percent are not uncommon. Ivan Stewart’s Protruck Racing Series is comprised of spec trucks with 430 horsepower and aftermarket components such as Bilstein shocks, Magnaflow exhaust, K&N Air Filters, MSD Ignitions, Yokohama Tires and all run on VP Racing Fuels. Each Protruck is built to ensure durability and performance while keeping costs reasonable. In a true testament to the durability and competitiveness of the Pro Trucks, nine of the 13 Protrucks that started the race finished it. “All of the Protruck teams did a tremendous job in this race,” commented Ivan Stewart after the race. “When you consider that the Trophy Truck that won the overall [not including motorcycles] costs more than most of the Protrucks entered into the race – combined – it is great to see Rick in the top ten overall.” Stewart, with 17 Baja 500 victories and three Baja 1000 wins knows a thing or two about what it takes to win Baja. “We designed the trucks to withstand a wide range of off-road racing so drivers go from tight, stadium-type courses to wide open places like Baja.
