Hogan and Nuckles were within 4 minutes of each other most of the race. Al Hogan was the first Protruck on the road most of the race and physically finished first. He had a mishap about 3 miles from the finish that allowed Nuckles to get the win on corrected time. Twenty-two seconds was the difference between first and second after a 500 mile race. Hogan drove the entire race as did Jimmy Nuckles.
