Four of the twelve Protrucks that started the event would also be fighting for the coveted Protruck Points Championship. The four-truck battle would be between Gustavo Vildosola Jr., Rick L. Johnson, Al Hogan and Jimmy Nuckles. If any one of the four were to win the event they would secure the Protruck Championship and claim the $50,000 grand prize. The top four points leaders battled it out most of the race. The race lead went back and forth many times and at the 400 mile mark Vildosola Racing had a nice lead but had some down time due to a driveshaft failure. At Mikes Sky Ranch it was Jimmy Nuckles, Rick L. Johnson and Gustavo Vildosola Jr. 1,2,3. With 15 miles to go Nuckles was the first Protruck physically on the track by 51 seconds, although Johnson had the lead on corrected time by 1 minute 9 seconds. At the finish Nuckles was able to make up time and win the race by 2 minutes 45 seconds. With that the Nuckles/Dickerson team take home the win and the Protruck Championship. Protruck's Year-End Championship Banquet will be held on the aircraft carrier Midway on January 7th on San Diego Bay. Not only will the $100,000 year end points money be paid, the theme is a tribute to the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group, with Mickey’s sister Colleen Campbell the guest speaker.
