This year, the event was played out aboard the Aircraft Carrier Midway in San Diego harbor. The prep included some high-wire protruck action. Guests enjoyed cocktails, music and dining among the vintage planes and Season Champion Ford Protruck driven by Jimmy Nuckles. Protruck founder Ivan Stewart paid tribute to off-road legend, Mickey Thompson, for his significant contribution to closed-course & desert off-road racing. Special guests from the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group were in attendance as well as drivers who participated during those events. Mickey’s sister Collene (Thompson) Campbell spoke on Mickey’s “Never-Give-Up-Attitude” as well as her involvement in “Three-Strikes” legislation. The “2005 Sponsor of the Year” plaque was awarded to MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust for their strong implementation of their Protruck sponsorship throughout their marketing within the SUV and light-truck segment. Magnaflow's marketing director Craig Lieberman was on hand to accept the award. The “2005 Manufacturer of the Year” trophy was awarded to Ford for taking home the most manufacturers points, capturing 7 of 10 wins and 84 out of a possible 90 points. Cliff Irey was on hand from Ford to accept the award with championship driver. The evening ended honoring the three Protruck winners who finished the season within a six point spread. Gustavo Vildosola Jr. took home the Third-Place Trophy with 714 points and a check for $11,000.00. Gustavo drives a Toyota for Vildosola Racing. Rick L. Johnson (Toyota Rick) took home the Second-Place Trophy with 715 points and a check for $20,000.00. Rick drives a Toyota for Agave Motorsports. And Jimmy Nuckles took home the Championship Trophy with 720 points, the Perpetual Bilstein Protruck Drivers Award, and a check for $50,000.00. Jimmy drives a Ford for Nuckles/Dickerson Racing.
